Community Services

A vision to make psychotherapy accessible to all regardless of social or financial status.

A bit about Liz

Liz was drawn to train as a psychotherapeutic counsellor through noticing the impact life complexities such as life transitions, self-identity, work pressures, family difficulties, parental responsibilities, managing work life balance and past trauma was having on the psychological wellbeing of many she worked alongside. Her passion for helping people and supporting them to maximise their potential and move forward with confidence and clarity was the catalyst for her career change.

Her background spans corporate (blue-chip and SME) and public sector settings, including education, local authority, and the NHS. She’s also been a stay-at-home mum, which has deepened her empathy and understanding of the challenges many families face. Much of her work has focused on children and families, giving her valuable insight into parenting, special educational needs, and navigating complex support systems.

Liz noticed a problem

It was during her work in the NHS and at the local authority where she had interactions with parents who were carrying complex burdens on their shoulders, which was impacting on their mental health. She found herself regularly in a position of listening to their plight. So often, there was help and support from the system for their children and their children’s wellbeing, but very little for the parents, yet it was crucial they stayed well to support their families.

Having been raised in a lower income family environment, Liz has lived experience and heightened awareness of the plight of those of lesser means. She has been privileged in her voluntary work and paid roles to support others in practical ways but has been acutely aware of the toll stresses and strains of life have on individuals and their psychological wellbeing.

She is also acutely aware that the cost of psychotherapy is often out of reach of many and so they are left to suffer in silence.

The developing vision – a small way to help solve the problem

Liz’s vision then, is to make psychotherapy accessible to all – including those of limited resources. She intends on developing youTherapy services to offer free or pay as you feel sessions for people with limited means, working in partnership with community organisations through a referral process. This will be facilitated through fundraising and receipt of donations from those who align with the vision and philosophy.

Perhaps as you read this vision, something resonates within you and you want to contribute to make this vision a reality – we’d love to hear from you.

Let’s not leave people to suffer in silence.
