Health and Safety Policy
youTherapy is currently a sole-trader business structure and does not employ staff, therefore health and safety law does not currently apply.
However, health and safety is important to youTherapy Services. Counselling Psychotherapy will be provided to clients using rented spaces designated by the individual therapist. It will be the responsibility of the therapist to ensure they are familiar with evacuation procedures in place at the venue in case of fire. An in-situ risk assessment should be undertaken through checking, trips and slips hazards, noticing any defective electrical equipment, any potential falling objects and ensuring any fire doors are not being propped open. It will be the responsibility of the therapist to reduce risks where possible and report any risks they are not able to mitigate to the venue manager.
In case of emotional distress experienced by the therapist because of a client therapy session, it is the therapist’s responsibility to ensure their own wellbeing through supervision and/or personal therapy. Due to the emotional nature of the work, it is the therapist’s responsibility to assess whether they are fit and safe to work with their clients. The therapist should follow the ethical guidance of their membership body such as BACP.
Therapists may find themselves working alone at a venue. youTherapy Services has a lone working policy and therapists should ensure they are familiar with this for their own personal safety.
